New Boss at the Office
When I worked at Initech as a consultant doing Target Profit Sampling reports, I remember one week everyone was nervous about a new company executive coming. This bigwig had already earned a reputation of being a tough guy, and not the kind of tough guy that gets stuff done, more the kind that was irrational. The first day the new executive was in the office, he wore a black cowboy hat with his formal business suit. There was an obvious metaphor of there being a ‘new sheriff in town’. My co-workers and I were all nervous about what would happen next.
It turned out, that the new executive, whose name was Steve, was a real no-nonsense kind of guy, and the first thing he did was address all the lazy managers and supervisors! It’s amazing to have a new executive who starts from the top and works his way down, instead of the other way around. Steve came to be known around the office as ‘The Law’ and with his leather cowboy hat, he sure stuck it to all the people robbing the company’s time!
