In modern times, crazy criminals are getting more and more brazen. It’s good to know that we can protect ourselves against an attacker, should the need arise. But spending years practicing martial arts or unarmed combat isn’t for everyone. If you could use brass knuckles anywhere you pleased, you would be a lot safer. The deterrance factor is huge, and if you actually need to use them, you can be sure you’ll stop an attacker in his tracks. Unfortunatly, they’re highly illegal in most jurisdictions. But using brass knuckles against someone isn’t something you can do lightly. You run a very real risk of being charged as a criminal for protecting yourself with these dangerous weapons.

Thankfully, you have other options. No need to mark yourself as a criminal in your own right simply because you have a pair of obvious brass knuckles. Other options are not as dangerous as brass knuckles, and they’re more controllable while still being very effective. I’m referring to sap gloves. Do you know what sap gloves are? They are gloves that significantly strengthen your punching power (similar to brass knuckles). But it’s difficult for an observer to know you’re using a defensive weapon. They just look like a pair of gloves. In virtually every place you go, you’ll be unable to carry brass knuckles for self defense. But sap gloves are another story entirely. They are easy to carry around with you and nobody will be any the wiser. If you fight with your fists, the violent criminals will not even realize you’re armed with sap gloves.

Unfortunatly, just as brass knuckles can get you in trouble, sap gloves also open you up to legal problems. But since it’s hard for others to notice your sap gloves, you might take the informed risk. After all, you need to protet yourself, right? If you can do it without letting others know you’re using a defensive weapon, no harm no foul. In some cases, it’s better to ask (a jury) for forgiveness than it is to rely on receiving permission.

Ever heard of a tactical pen? Another great way to protect yourself is to carry an unobtrusive tactical pen. Most guys don’t take notice of other people’s pens. If someone carries a pen, it’s no big deal. After all, we all need to write from time to time. But this sort of pen is a weapon too, and it’s hard for others to make that determination.

The only problem with tactical pens is that some manufacturers treat them like a toy. They design them in such a way that any sensible person would automatically recognize it as a weapon. They make them look ridiculously dangerous. These pens are owned by people who think it is ‘cool’ to own a pen that looks like a ninja weapon.

But most of us would be much better off buying a tactical pen that — while effective as a ‘force multiplier’ in a physical confrontation — is designed in such a way that it isn’t obviously a weapon. Your tactical pen needs to work well as a handheld weapon, that much is understood. But it doesn’t really need to look like a dangerous weapon too. Even though it has two uses — as a writing tool and as a personal security device — it should be able to easily make it through security checkpoints. So, carry your pen around, write with it, and enjoy it. But realize that it will increase your ability during a fight. If you are in an airport or other security-restricted place, a good tactical pen is the best choice for self defense since it can often get right past security without attracting notice.

So if you ever feel the need to insure your own protection, but you often frequent areas that restrict your right to arm yourself, a pair of sap gloves or a nice tactical pen might just be what you need for safety and peace of mind.
